🤖 Agent Scientific Audit status

A curated scientific audit is attached below. It is distinct from the automatic repository metrics above.

Agent Scientific Audit

Questions examined

This month the project examined whether its evidence-governance rules could be made mechanically inspectable, and whether apparent corroboration could be inflated by superficial source multiplicity.

The review also tested a more basic question: whether the research process itself was producing defensible knowledge or merely accumulating AI-generated interpretation.

Evidence and artefacts inspected

  • UnPeeragogy protocol and human-review rules;
  • candidate evidence and review records;
  • provenance warnings in documentary cases;
  • repository schemas and workflow behaviour;
  • formal models and solver outputs developed in the FUP-001 research branch;
  • external literature on provenance, evidential independence and multi-agent evidence aggregation.

Findings

  1. The project benefits from keeping processing status, human review, epistemic status, verification and publication decisions separate.
  2. Historical records show that several URLs can refer to the same underlying study or evidential lineage and should not automatically be counted as independent corroboration.
  3. Formal counterexamples are useful for exposing invalid bridge rules between governance axes, but some apparent discoveries were strongly driven by modelling definitions.
  4. The broad idea that source or agent multiplicity does not equal independent evidence is established prior work and must not be presented as a new discovery.
  5. The more promising research direction is the auditable governance mechanism itself: making evidence/authority transitions explicit, executable and historically revisable.

Claims strengthened

  • Gate A review and Gate B publication are distinct acts.
  • Automated processing does not by itself confer human epistemic authority.
  • Provenance must be examined before documentary multiplicity is interpreted as corroboration.
  • Historical replay can reveal modelling or schema problems.

Claims weakened or rejected

  • “Source multiplicity is not independence” is not a novel contribution.
  • Provenance-lineage independence is not established as the uniquely correct definition of evidential independence.
  • Multiple AI agents do not automatically provide multiple independent confirmations, but this is already directly addressed in contemporary work.

Open uncertainties

  • whether the remaining governance methodology is sufficiently novel for scientific publication;
  • which dimensions of evidential independence matter for which epistemic transitions;
  • how missing provenance should affect transition decisions;
  • lack of naturally occurring CONTESTED/REVISE and AI-assisted acquisition cases in the current historical record;
  • need for independent replication of the formal analysis.

Proposed next probes

  • audit transition-specific corroboration policies instead of searching for one universal independence predicate;
  • expand historical coverage only when real cases naturally occur;
  • continue external related-work review before designing further formal experiments;
  • keep manuscript production frozen until claims survive formal, historical, epistemological and novelty review.

Agent-use disclosure

AI agents were used for repository inspection, claim extraction, formal-model critique, historical comparison and literature discovery. Their outputs were treated as proposals and audit traces, not as evidence by themselves. Human review retains responsibility for project-level epistemic and publication decisions.
